Kong’s Wild Ride

On this day in 1977, Dave Kingman was traded from the Mets to the Padres launching what would become one of the strangest single seasons for a player in modern history. During that 1977 season, Kong hit 26 home runs for 4 different clubs. He became the only player to hit a home run for a team in each of baseball’s four divisions in the same year: Mets (NL East), Padres (NL West), Angels (AL West), and Yankees (AL East), and also became the only player to blast a homer for both the New York Mets and the New York Yankees in the same season.
